derekb Posted 22 November , 2015 Share Posted 22 November , 2015 Good Afternoon, Could you tell me what type of mortar is shown in the attached photo, also your opinions of what the writing says, particularly the name over the soldier with a cross on his helmet. I will post the reverse later. Here is the reverse of the photo.Derek.
rbrauerei Posted 22 November , 2015 Share Posted 22 November , 2015 The mortar is the 7.58cm leichter Minenwerfer (lMW) n.A. (aka 76mm light mortar). Vintage 1916. Name on front; possibly Frank or Franz. Handwriting on reverse is not clear enough for me... Hopefully, someone with better Süttelin script reading ability will chime in... new3.2 Posted 23 November , 2015 Share Posted 23 November , 2015 With the fellow located right behind the tube, it does not appear to have the anti-tank addition. new3.
new3.2 Posted 24 November , 2015 Share Posted 24 November , 2015 Another question- Were there willow wicker carriers in that box that the crew is serving the mortar from? I have restored a 7.6 cm and would like to find an ammunition box or a good photo of same. Ken new 3.
Chasemuseum Posted 28 November , 2015 Share Posted 28 November , 2015 Ammunition could be in a wooden carry box with internal spacers or in a wicker carrier. Will try to find some photos Cheers RT
