Guest caldhbreac Posted 21 November , 2004 Share Posted 21 November , 2004 I understand the campaigns in the Great War were allocated a 'Theatre of war ' number. I understand that the various campaigns were given theatres of war numbers eg Balkans (the Dardenelles) was 2( Can anyone tell me if the campaign in Mesopotamia fell within the definition of 'The Balkans' at that time or was there was a corresponding number for the campaign in Mesopotamia? The original force to go to Mesopotamia was organised from India in 1914 and was designated as Force 'D'. and I would like to know if any other War Office number was assigned later. I would also be interested to know if there is a list of these Theatre of war numbers accessible on the internet.? Thank you Michael McDonnell
hmsk212 Posted 21 November , 2004 Share Posted 21 November , 2004 Hi Michael Mesopotamia was in the Asiatic Theatre of War 5a up until 31/12/1915 and then from 01/01/1916 it was 6b. If you use the search facility on this forum you should come up with a couple of comprehensive lists. Steve
