andigger Posted 19 November , 2004 Share Posted 19 November , 2004 Perhaps an odd question, but why are the trees in the picture whacked off at the top? To my eye at least it makes them look very strange. Does it have something to do with the type of tree, or is it for some other effect? Half-pint Posted 19 November , 2004 Share Posted 19 November , 2004 It looks as though the trees have been pollarded ... a specialized form of pruning, done for various reasons ... sometimes to rejuvenate a tree, to create unusual border or landscape markings, or to produce more lush foliage by sprouting new shoots and branches that will tend to produce larger than normal leaves.
