danvee43 Posted 10 November , 2015 Share Posted 10 November , 2015 Curious whether Americans carried sidearms other than the 1911, the Colt and Smith M-1917 with them into battle in Europe. If so, what were they? Was the non government-purchased Colt Army Special one of them?
Khaki Posted 10 November , 2015 Share Posted 10 November , 2015 Apart from General Patton, I don't know of any particular instances involving AEF troops, although I am sure it was quite common, in fact there are a number of examples of BEF officers purchasing 'backup' sidearms. There is a well known photographic portrait of General Gough wearing a small automatic pistol. I will have to put my thinking cap on, the answer will be somewhere in amongst the many memoirs & diaries, khaki
