MikeyH Posted 9 November , 2015 Share Posted 9 November , 2015 I found this brass letter opener earlier this year at an antiques fair, it was badly bent but straightened out o.k. The blade is marked 'YPRES HILL 60'. It was made from cartridge cases and shell fuzes found on the site and would have been sold as a tourist souvenir to visitors to the Hill in the 1920's. Overall length is 170mm, it is a 'generic' style bayonet, but bears a passing resemblance to a Belgian M1889. The other miniature is a 'modern' French item, bought in St.Malo around 12 years ago, again a non specific type, made in chrome plated brass. Mike. trajan Posted 10 November , 2015 Share Posted 10 November , 2015 Nice looking pieces! I have only ever come across one anything like those - and it is substantially post GW, being modelled on a Turkish M.'1935' - but it is a handy letter opener, and even has a working catch to keep it fixed to its bayonet lug!
