Remembered Today:

A double-fraktur marked EB 45

Well, this is an odd one for me. An EB 45 with what seems to be a double fraktur, two different crowned marks, one opposed to the other and partly hidden by the crossguard... I make the one more visible mark to be possibly an 'H', the other an 'M', but I am happy to be corrected on this. These EB 45's have the Bayard-type blades with square fullers, and if anyone has another example, I'd like to know whether it too has double frakturs. The scabbard, BTW, has some of the original 'feldgrau' paint left where the frog was. Anyway, all comments welcome, and I'll try to post better photographs anon.

PS: No, not my photographs or carpet - but yes, the bayonet is mine, a delivery today!

Update - a couple examples have been reported on GBF, both EB 45's, and so it seems to be a characteristic of some frequency of these ones...

I have now tracked down one certain and one possible other of these double-marked ones, the first on an EB 46, which is an EB 45 with the 'ring' removed... The blades on these EB 45/46's are close in style to Bayard of Belgium blades, and one possibility is that the blades are made there, and inspected, and then sent to Germany for hafting where they were given another inspection mark...
