Dear Phil, this a probable long shot but I thought I would try it. I'm trying to find out about my GG Uncle, Thomas Smith 23494 Guardsman. CWGC casualty details says he was a Lance Corporal , 1st battalion, although in medal index a pte. wounded in March 1916 (according to a local newspaper report which I'm checking out tommorow) and died of his wounds 21/11/1916. He is buried at Grove Town cemetry Meaulte. Copuld you and your book give me any pointers to his movements. I don't Know when he enlisted, but was from Kidsgrove, Staffordshire. The Regimental archivist says all records of him are missing.

Thanks for any help, however small Nel
