HERITAGE PLUS Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 I know that Sutton Veny was the located to a number of Army Camps. I am looking for a map showing the location of each camp. I am interested in Camp No:7 in particular as this was where a man I am researching was based in 1916,. Any photograph of No:7 would be appreciated. Gareth Davies Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 I am sure Moonraker will be able to help but in advance of a response from him, have a look here http://wylyevalley1914.org.uk The organisers had on display a very large scale map (several metres wide) of all the Codford and Sutton Veny camps. They may be able to help.

Moonraker Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 Heritage, I hope that the illustrations are good enough for your purposes? (Both the photos are of Camp No 7.) A field visit may allow you to find the spot from where the lower photo was taken a century ago. A couple of months ago, I inadvertently bought a duplicate of the lower card and promptly sold it for a profit. (Don't be misled by the encircled "9" above Codford; this was the photographer's reference number.) Incidentally, I missed out on this mundane card recently offered on eBay. A dealer might ask £10 for it a fair, but I've never seen this particular card before, and no doubt rival bidders hadn't either. Gareth: will see what I can do. Moonraker Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 Oop sorry, just realised that Heritage was asking about Sutton Veny, not Codford. I was about to say that he's probably gnashing his teeth, but he doesn't seem to have realised - or is too polite to point out - my stupidity. All is not lost. Watch this space - or the one below it. Gareth: if you still want better pics of Codford No 7, please let me know. Moonraker
Moonraker Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 Happily I already had a scan of a 1915 plan showing the Sutton Veny camps: Am about to scan a postcard photograph. Moonraker
