Marigold1 Posted 24 August , 2015 Share Posted 24 August , 2015 Does anyone happen to know when the last British units were sent to Gallipoli, and when this was.? Were any troops sent there between September and December 1915?t (I know the final British troops left on 8th January 1916.) Marigold
Guest Posted 24 August , 2015 Share Posted 24 August , 2015 Welcome to the Forum. Troops were still arriving in very small numbers only a few days before evacuation. The last proper draft recorded in the diaries was by the Royal Fusiliers: 18th Dec 1915. Remain in dugouts. Inspect future rest camp just about X BEACH being vacated by the ROYAL NAVAL DIV. Saw draft of 500 men at GULLY BEACH. Between September and December thousands of reinforcements were pouring into Gallipoli. Edit. There is evidence in the 88th Inf Bde returns that smaller drafts may have arrived on 26th/27th Dec 1915: The Brigade Strength jumped from 1,879 to 2,217 between these two dates. To save you the maths, that is a net increase of 338 or an 18% increase. MG
