Terry Denham Posted 15 November , 2004 Share Posted 15 November , 2004 This is an exercise for our non-UK Pals. Where is this memorial? The inscription below the figures simply reads "Buddies". Out of the picture are the dates "1914-1918" and a list of about ten names. This is not a UK memorial (as you can see by the blue sky!) and it is located in a village of about a thousand souls. Any ideas?
CROONAERT Posted 15 November , 2004 Share Posted 15 November , 2004 Going off the uniforms depicted and the language used, I'd say it's in the USA but where, I've no idea!!!! dave.
Hugh Pattenden Posted 15 November , 2004 Share Posted 15 November , 2004 Seems a bit odd for a memorial in the USA to have the dates '1914 - 1918' though. Surely one would expect it to have '1917 - 1918'? Hugh.
andigger Posted 15 November , 2004 Share Posted 15 November , 2004 Not sure where it is, but I wouldn't guess the US either. While it doesn't mean it is definitely Canada, the maple tree in the back ground does mean its farther North than South. hmmm... 'buddies' is weird for a memorial. Any more hints Terry? Terry Denham Posted 16 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2004 I give in. It is in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, USA. Is the date of 14-18 unusual on US memorials? Logic says yes but I don't know. The photo was provided by Peter Vince from his recent holiday in that area. He has a lot to answer for as he was the ******* who got me interested in WW1 ! Tom Morgan wins the prize for knowledge of remote memorials!
andigger Posted 16 November , 2004 Share Posted 16 November , 2004 As I am googling for the answer I found this.... http://www.petcem.com/dogs_of_war.htm Yes 1914-18 is odd for a US monument because we didn't get in until 1917. What is in Jaffrey that your friend would be there? I'll have to investigate further...... Terry now your the ***** who has me tying up the computer all night. My roommate is glaring at you!! Terry Denham Posted 16 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2004 He was looking for graves (he is even weirder than Tom and myself!). He likes graves from the War of Independence - although I suspect that he was actually looking for a decent bar. Apologies to your room mate.
