Michael Haselgrove Posted 10 August , 2015 Share Posted 10 August , 2015 I thought Trajan, and perhaps one or two others, might be interested in an S 98/05 nA I acquired recently, unfortunately minus scabbard. The maker is Carl Eickhorn & Companie, Solingen. According to Anthony Carter German Bayonets Vol. 1 page 70 that company is most famous for the production of large quantities of edged weapons post Great War. He writes that examples of the S 98/05 nA made during the war are scarce and records only 1916 and 1917 production with the majority dated 1916. In Vol. 11 page 236 Carter records one additional example, an S 98/05 aA dated 1915.It is impossible to say whether the example below was manufactured as an aA and converted. My my opinion is that is was as the wood to metal fit of the grips is not quite as good as I would expect. However, that may be due to age shrinkage rather than anything else.Regards,Michael. trajan Posted 10 August , 2015 Share Posted 10 August , 2015 A beatifully clear stamping there - 'fraktur' and all, as well as being a nice rarity to add to the collection!
