Remembered Today:

13th Indian Division

Chappell in The Regimental Warpath states that the 13th Indian Division was never formed but I keep coming across ref's to it. Am I wrong in thinking that this is just typo's in cross ref'ing the British Western Division serving in Mesopotamia ?

Kempton (not sure if you've ordered the books yet) doesn't list a 13th Indian Division. Goes straight from 12th to 14th.

Have ordered - they're on the way...

Paul Watson in "The Indian Army in the Great War" agrees - no 13th Indian Division. So I'm going to stay with original assumption that these are typo's on the web.

Thanks

Given that Kempton states the 12th Division was formed in Mespot in March/April '15, and the 14th in Mespot in May '15, and the 13th (Western) Division had arrived in theatre in April '15, I wonder if that was a deliberate decision to avoid confusion.

I think you are right. There was no 38th, 39th or 40th Bde either. They should have been formed in February 1916.

An amazing (and unusual) outbreak of commonsense.
