What model / date / provenance is the firearm? That might help eliminate some possibles...

WRV could be West Riding Volunteers, but to the best of my knowledge the usual marking for West Riding units was 'W.RID'. I assume that MDC is not 'Military District C'?

And here's another new one to me in the P.1907 unit marking field, on a 12/14 SANDERSON.... (and JMB, note no clearance hole!). It's '1017 / L.D.F'. I strongly suspect Irish, Local Defence Force - any comments / corrections?

I think you are probably correct with Local Defence Force of Northern? Ireland established in September 1940.

Could be 1ST Dublin Fusiliers. I have a couple of P 07s where a mis-stamped 1 looks like an L. BEST W, hOWARD

Agree, 1 D F for the 1st The Royal Dublin Fusileers, plus the serial number 1017.

Thanks for that correction! I did wonder about the high number, though...
