ddycher Posted 11 July , 2015 Share Posted 11 July , 2015 All With alot of help from Maureen I have been plodding my way through the history of the Lahore Divisional Area. I had always believed that these areas were divisible from each other and that they had a prescribed area of responsibility however I am starting to see detachments from other Divisions / Bdes popping up in stations / garrisons I believed todate were wholely the responsibility of the Lahore Divisional Area. First thought was that I had missed the posting of battalions to the division but this not the case and parent HQ's and remaining Coys remained with the original divisions. How did this work ? Can anyone shed any light ? Dave
MaureenE Posted 11 July , 2015 Share Posted 11 July , 2015 Dave, perhaps there were transfers on an “as required” basis. A 1928 map called “India: Railways and Cantonments” shows there is a defined area for each Command, and Division within that Command. https://web.archive.org/web/20131117010231/http://www.retronaut.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/India-railways-and-Cantonments-1928.jpg (archive.org, so may not be accessible to you) https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/a2/84/6c/a2846cd0f5324eabcebd2dfb2d038ac1.jpg (perhaps this one is accessible) If these both aren’t accessible try Googling “India: Railways and Cantonments" 1928 Cheers Maureen
