Guest LauraEJT Posted 13 November , 2004 Share Posted 13 November , 2004 Sorry-this is a really long shot but am doing it for my husband, whos grandfather he was. All husband knows is that he was regular Royal Navy ( aged 31 in 1914)and was torpedoed during the war-husband remembers a photo of him in uniform with the name of the ship on the cap band, but can't think what it was-he (husband not grandfather) was very young... Any advice that someone can give on searching for such vague Naval things would be appreciated as we have had no luck.Grandfather Govett survived but with very compromised health because of the experience and died in the early 50's. Any ideas we can try? Many thanks in advance,Laura
RNCVR Posted 14 November , 2004 Share Posted 14 November , 2004 Laura, You have his name, perhaps not his ON (official number) - his Service record would be in the PRO in the ADM 188 series. This would give you all of his career in the RN - ranks, rate, promotions, ships & bases served on, conduct record, etc etc . Bryan
