WW1 Remembrance - Vale of Belvoir, Leics

Hi All,

I thought you may be interested in an on going project by the Hose & Harby Branch of the Royal British Legion here in North Leicestershire. The 9 villages in the Vale of Belvoir, Long Clawson, Hose, Harby, Plungar, Redmile, Bottesford, Muston and Stathern, record 134 names of those who fell in WW1 - on 7 Memorial Tablets and 3 Crosses of Sacrifice.

On 13 September 2014, the Branch Standard was paraded at each location, the Fallen were named by a local school child or a member of that community, the Ode of Remembrance said and the Last Post sounded. All of the events being videoed.

We felt that Remembrance should not be just a single event and after a few months of research managed to positively identify each name, where they died and the date of death. For the next 5 years (1915-1919) members of the branch will lay an RBL wooden cross, individually named and also recording the place of death, at the memorial on the day they fell.

To date, we have placed 8 crosses and 9 more to come for this year. Needless to say, 1916 is going to be a busy year!

Bottesford have their own Centenary Project which is excellent and can be found at

Regards

David
