anthony Posted 12 November , 2004 Share Posted 12 November , 2004 Hi everyone , Just picked up 3 photos and would appreciate your thoughts generally on them. In particular the date (pre or post war?). I noticed the vertical stripe on the arm of the l/cpl 4th from right on the middle row.Is it a wound stripe? Many of the men seem to me to be in the 40+ age group. Last but not least.....fencing?! Anthony
anthony Posted 12 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 12 November , 2004 2nd photo, From same collection-uniform different/age group younger, wartime?
anthony Posted 12 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 12 November , 2004 3rd photo-soldier in dress uniform, same collection-is this the kings own lion? I have enlarged the cap badge and I am still undecided! Cheers , anthony
anthony Posted 13 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 13 November , 2004 I also forgot to mention the absence of medal ribbons in photo 1. Is that significant in dating the picture? cheers, anthony
KONDOA Posted 13 November , 2004 Share Posted 13 November , 2004 I had looked at these photos and I too had noticed the abscence of ribbons which one would think meant pre 1920 -22. However there is a feel about these photos which would suggest something less obvious, at this point I dont know what. Roop
anthony Posted 13 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 13 November , 2004 Thanks for looking Roop. The older members of photo 1 look much older than you would imagine a group of Great War vets at this time. Are they reservists-some of the men look very young-esp. the lad holding the rifles? Still the uniform and the facial hair seem very pre-1914......
