trenchtrotter Posted 1 June , 2015 Share Posted 1 June , 2015 This image has been posted before. I found this item on the Somme in March 2014 in the area fought over late Sept through to March 1917. My question is what model ersatz is it? Anyone? Thanks. TT
calibre792x57.y Posted 1 June , 2015 Share Posted 1 June , 2015 Can't see the blade of course but I would say that it is an EB3 under Carter's categorisation, but the scabbard has a finial so it isn't the usual type found with this bayonet, but possibly from a Sg14. - SW

trajan Posted 2 June , 2015 Share Posted 2 June , 2015 If it has a double bolster/crossguard then yes, one of the EB 03-08 series, but if a single bolster, then one of the EB 09-13 lot. I guess there is no trace of a unit marking? IIRC (travelling and away from books), a finial is found on some of the EB scabbards. This looks to have an imitation 'locket' - is that so? Again, IIRC, Carter reckoned these EB03-13 were the most common types of EB bayonet. All I can add to his observation is that of the 400 or so unit-associated EB I have on file, the EB 03-13 series total 45. Julian
