cooper Posted 2 June , 2015 Author Share Posted 2 June , 2015 Another top tip. I will bear it in mind if I decide to re blue anything on the rifled. Many thanks. The polish I use is 'Peek'. It cleans and protects the metal. It's typically used on metalwork on boats but can be easily purchased. Cooper

asanewt Posted 2 June , 2015 Share Posted 2 June , 2015 Lovely job, you should be very pleaesd. Probably "Granny ,eggs, sucking" but to clean the bluing and remove rust and leave the history in tact. Two favourite methods are rubbing with 0000 grade wire wool soaked in 3 in 1 oil or, for lighter treatment on good blue, oiled kitchen foil is very effective. For full re blue here's one done earlier!

Beerhunter Posted 3 June , 2015 Share Posted 3 June , 2015 To take the rust off but leave the finish, Ideally one does not use either steel nor carborundum but rather copper or brass wool. If you can find any this side of the pond!
