22402947 Posted 11 November , 2004 Share Posted 11 November , 2004 I was hoping some forum member could help me on this. When my father finally claimed his first war medals in 1950, there was no war wound badge included. He had his left eye blown out August 1915, he continued on till 1918 after his eye healed, although thereafter he always wore a glass eye. I was going to write the war office at an address that I'm sure now is redundant quoting an old reference number from 1950. Has any forum member got another suggestion? Montague H. chris basey Posted 12 November , 2004 Share Posted 12 November , 2004 Montague I have not come across a 'war wound badge' and wonder if you are referring to the Silver War Badge see: http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad8.htm
GrandsonMichael Posted 12 November , 2004 Share Posted 12 November , 2004 Or do you mean wound stripe? Like attached picture?
22402947 Posted 12 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 12 November , 2004 Thanks for the information: Since my father wasnt invalinded out of the service because of his injury, I guess he wouldnt have been entitled to the War Wound Badge. I just thought there was an award of some kind given to those that were wounded but not invalinded out of the service because of it, and I thought that the loss of an eye was pretty important. Much like the Purple Heart in the USA forces.Maybe no such award was never awarded, he never wore any wound stripes on his uniform, and I have many taken after the loss of his eye. Thanks again.
