johntaylor Posted 11 May , 2015 Share Posted 11 May , 2015 I've come across a reference in a German regimental history to "eine 15er", which is evidently a type of field gun. I presume "15" refers either to the calibre or the weight of the shell, but can anyone provide any more information about what sort of gun this was please? Many thanks John
johnboy Posted 11 May , 2015 Share Posted 11 May , 2015 possibly this one. It seems to be the only one with 15 in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15_cm_sFH_02

johntaylor Posted 11 May , 2015 Author Share Posted 11 May , 2015 I've just noticed that Wikipedia refers to another 15cm heavy howitzer, and says that this was the gun referred to by the British as a 5.9 (which is the equivalent of 15cm in inches): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15_cm_sFH_13 This looks a very likely suspect - thanks for pointing me in this direction. All the best, John
