zijde26 Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 The Belgian TV (VRT) mentioned it tonight in its 'news' - program and was also giving some images. Gilbert Deraedt
Ralph J. Whitehead Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 I am glad to see that the ceremony was well attended and well planned. I believe too many past burials did not receive the attention that they deserved. Does anyone know if there is any attempt being made to identify these individuals? Hopefully some personal effects oridentity discs were also recovered. Ralph
Aurel Sercu Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Ralph, I suppose that attempts to ID indeed have been made by the Volksbund. Having been present when most of these remains were found (at Boezinge, north of Ypres), I can guarantee that no ID discs were found. A few personal effects, but nothing that could help a possible ID. Aurel
Ralph J. Whitehead Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Thanks Aurel, I expected as much. It would seem that personal effects survived better in some areas than others, it is all a matter of luck. Still, they were given a decent burial as they deserved. I would have liked to have helped with the excavations. It must be amazing to discover so much about the war and the people who fought that are just under your feet. However I forgot to mention that with regard to one of them I had thought I was very close. I have just given more info about this (+ a photo) but in a different thread.
