Entwistle Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 Can anyone tell me the unit this young man fought in and what rank he was. Do the three stipes on right arm mean he was a sergeant? The badge on his hat is fairly clear if you zoom in.... Thanks
scott henderson Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Entwistle. The rank markings on his sleeve do appear to be Sergeant stripes and the cap badge looks like Royal Artillery, could also be Royal Field Artillery or Royal Garrison Artillery. As far as i know the three all had the same style of cap badge but it needs to be confirmed by another of the Pals with more of a knowledge of these things. Entwistle Posted 10 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Thanks Scott, I had a look at Royal Field Artillery badge on line and it looks very similar. Any thoughts anyone else?

Entwistle Posted 10 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Yes, his name is Albert John Roberts of Brixton, London. Definately survivied the war. There are many Albert J Roberts in medal card index. Trying to narrow it down with unit and rank using this photo.
