Anyone who has read Eileen Croftons excellent book, "The Women of Royaumont" may like to have a look at the following website, there are some great pictures of the Abbey when it was being used as a hospital. also, the Abbey is well worth visiting, it is close to Chantilly and Senlis.

So far as i can make out, there is an account of the abbey being handed over to the Red Cross as a convalescent hopital run by Scottish nurses. They had no heating or light. It also describes their uniforms and functions. Sorry - that's as far as my school French will take me, but the pictures are superb.
