geraint Posted 15 January , 2018 Share Posted 15 January , 2018 It was on BBC last night - and my first viewing. As Phil said a veritable curate's egg of a film - and very good in parts. I thought that the trench attack on Lone Pine to be as authentic a depiction of Great War trench fighting as could possibly be made on a film set and the injured in no man's land was heart-wrenching.It depicted the Turks in a sympathetic light - both Ottoman and Atatürk nationalists. It really brought home the grim reality of battlefield clearances as well. My only connection with Gallipoli was that my late great aunt's fiancé still lies somewhere in the vicinity of Salt Lake, with others of the 6th RWF. She remained a spinster for the rest of her life. Personally - a very moving film.
