All the references 'M.17.1', M.17.2'... etc relate to the frontline trench in grid square M.17. In the next door square (M.18), all the references begin with 'M.18'. The next square (eastwards) containing the front-line on this map (M.24) has reference beginning with 'M.24'. Next is square 'N.19', and all references begin with 'N.19' ... and so on.
