I can't work this one out at all - a 3 or 8, and L something I N? It is probably patently obvious but it is late here and I have been grading essays for two days and so I can't get my head around it...

TIA, for any help...

Trajan,

As you say, it is very hard to read, however, there seems to be only one contender for that group of letters among the British Infantry Regiments, that is ' LEIN ' for The Prince of Wales' Leinster Regiment ? That is, assuming the second letter is an ' E ' ?

Regards,

LF

Looks like an E to me...

Edit to add... you're a teacher, right? Maybe hit it with some chalk, see if it is easier to read.

Thanks both - yes, Leinster fits the bill perfectly... And I see that they had no 8 Batt., so it is 3. IF I buy it, then I'll do the chalk thing - if I can find some chalk!

Thanks again,

Trajan
