museumtom Posted 15 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 15 March , 2015 Sorry, lads. 09/11/1916. Soldier’s Funeral in Listowel-On Sunday last, after last Mass, the funeral took place from St Mary’s Parish Church, Listowel, of Private John James, R.M.F., who died in Richmond Hospital, Dublin, from wounds received in action. The deceased, who was son of Mr T James, and a member of an old family in the town, was about seven years in the army, five of which he spent in India. He was amongst the first landing party at Suvla Bay, where he received such serious wounds that they proved fatal. The funeral was very large, and much sympathy was expressed for the parents and family of the deceased.

jdoyle Posted 17 March , 2015 Share Posted 17 March , 2015 using 8846 as a starter, had a look in the SWB rolls for men in a similar number range and came across 1/8828 Patrick Cavanagh 7/8/1908 - 5/12/1915 1/8855 John Fitzgerald 6/10/1908 - 8861 Michael Driscoll 14/10/1908 - 7/1/18 8868 Cornelius Foley 2/11/1908 - 29/10/17 Found Cornelius Foley and Patrick Cavanagh on the 1911 census in India. A John James from Listowel, Co Kerry is on the next page with 1st RMF in India. No Silver War Badge entry found or pension record. WFA pension records may be an option? MIC for Cornelius Foy and Patrick Cavanagh both show landed Balkans 2b 25/4/1915
