Somme - artillery preparatory bombardment

Hi,

I know this subject has been discussed many times here but I have found on the French forum an interesting diagram about the effect of the bombardment on the South of the river.

It shows the "disorganisation" of the german units on the 1st of July. The regiments from the 121 I.D. and 11 I.D are mixed up on the front line, as well as the divisions.

24 June - prior to the bombardment

1st of July.

On the northern sector (British) the artillery preparation wasn't as successful but I was wondering if the bombardment had a similar effect on the German units ?

It seems to me that the defensive units there were not as mixed up on the 1st of July ? Can you confirm this point ?

Are there any similar diagrams on the British sector ?

Thank you,

Sly
