gregory128 Posted 11 March , 2015 Share Posted 11 March , 2015 Hello, so i have recently bought this greatcoat in hope of displaying it with my kuk shako. Only catch is that my knowledge on axis uniform is quite limited since the research material is quite niche if you do not speak the native language. I was wondering whether anyone can identify the following: Usually i specify on British 19th century frocks and tunics, however iv decided to set up a small WW1 exhibition in my local town. I am also wondering whether the shako is correct for the greatcoat and if not what would a valid replacement be?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251822461766? ... EBIDX%3AITMy shako looks like the attached but without the badge and leather strap (Although it may have had one in the past). Also the button is plain. johnboy Posted 11 March , 2015 Share Posted 11 March , 2015 Something to do with aircraft but does not look like RFC or RAF cap badge. Not British?
gregory128 Posted 12 March , 2015 Author Share Posted 12 March , 2015 The uniforms iv displayed are Austro Hungarian in origin. I think they date to the early part of the great war. The shako in the picture is a pilots shako. However the one i own i think belongs to the Infantry aspect of army. From what i gather though, the shako style remains the same through most the branches until 1915.
Steven Broomfield Posted 12 March , 2015 Share Posted 12 March , 2015 Gregory, I'm pretty sure it's possible to do this: could I suggest you change to topic title to something clarifying that it's an Austrian uniform question? There are people who know, but your title won't necessarily attract them. Me - I know nothing!
