Remembered Today:

98/05 Sawback varieties

This topic really follows on from the other - 'Behind the grips'... The 98/05 m.S I focussed on there is also a bit odd in having its saw-teeth back to front - that is to say, the first stroke of the saw (from the crossguard) goes from bottom left to top right... The detailed instructions supplied for sawbacks stipulate the exact opposite.

So, I thought I'd share with you all two of each, the two on the left are regulation right-to-left, both are WAFFENFABRIK (the second relic example there is from the Syrian desert and is W/16 OR W/17); the two on the right go left-to-right, the third one from the left is a W/14 HAENEL (thanks to SAWDOCS for that one!), the last one being the one I have w/o any markings (except for 'frakturs' on the pommel and inside the grips) - but note that flattened first tooth, suggesting something has been ground-off there.
