Hi,

I've unearthed a family photo but cannot identify the cap badge.

Could anyone offer any suggestions please.

The dark mohair band around the cap with the black leather peak & chinstrap tells me RAF post 1919.

I thought RFC for the badge too at first, but a comparison of the lettering of the two seems to favour the RAF - which would support ARABIS's identification of the cap of course (not that it needs supporting, by the sound of it).

Cheers, Pat

If it's British here's a few guesses RFC, Royal Hampshire, Cheshire Regt, Tank Corps.

Definitely not Cheshire Reg't.

Hi,

Many thanks to all for your detective work.

Now I know the uniform I think the subject is my grandfather - Sgt. Sidney Hunt - 508510 RAF.

BORN 1903 - so the photo would be approx 1921!

I know little of his early life, only my mothers recollections post 1936. He was stationed in Canada during WW11 (1943) though I know not why. Any tips on tracing RAF personnel would be welcome.

Regards,

Your Grandfather enlisted in the RAF on 19th March, 1928 somewhat after the Great War.

His service records (2 pages) can be found on Findmypast here
http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbm%2fair79%2f3028%2f00021&parentid=gbm%2fair79%2f393637

It is pay to view, but you may be able to gain free access at your local library.

Hope this helps
