Remembered Today:

Irish Guards transfer to unknown Gds Company?

The Guardroom

Recommended Posts

Trying to identify the name of this unit that this Irish Gdsm was posted to towards in Dec 1918. There are 2 refs in his papers of the 1st and 2nd, but its clearer on his pension papers attached below as the 1st.

To me it looks like '1st Comp Gds Garr Coy' - 1st Composite Guards Garrison Company????? perhaps something to do with the Occupation force in Germany??

Not sure why his papers just don't say 1st IG, to which he was demobed from

Any help or sharper eyes most welcome.

Rgds,

Alan

Hi,

There is actually a typed stamp with the unit name "Guards Composite Garrison Company " towards top left of the form below the word "STATEMENT". There may be a number 1 stamped over that word.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes thanks for clarifying my thinking from what is present between the hand written wording and stamp, but what was this Company and their role during the period after the Armistice. I can't find any mention to it anywhere?

Hi Alan,

I've previously downloaded CG & WG WW1 history from below site. It may be looking at them and doing a word search for Guards Composite Garrison Company"

I'm sure GG SG & IG WW1 histories will be freely available there as well.

Steve
