No Marichal of any description on NA/MICs that I can see.

Try a few different spellings?

Is there a similar site to the CWGC for French soldiers killed in France during WW1.

Marichal was a former French officer who resigned his commission in 1908. Married an English lady, possibly from Birmingham. Moved to Canada and he and his family survived sinking of the Lusitania. Afterwards came to Birmingham.

He is said to have been KIA on 12 August 1916 at the Somme area serving with the 44th Infantry Regiment.

I would like to know if he has a grave.

Regards

Terry

Hi

Ah, another Lusitania

Translated from

http://wheb.ac-reims.fr/dsden51/iria51/IMG/pdf/Brochure_14_18.pdf

Joseph Marichal and his family sailed from New York on the Lusitania , to join a
Europe during World War II . This luxury liner carrying American passengers, but
crew rumored that also houses ammunition. In addition, a leaflet distributed to passengers
recalls the dangers of navigating a war zone. Throughout the duration of the passage,
Marichal asks: Are the risks mentioned real ? The captain would he
really a civilian ship equipped with military equipment, endangering the lives of all
passengers? The sinking of the Lusitania , torpedoed May 7, 1915 , will confirm the doubts
Joseph Marichal and will be an input trigger war in the United States in the conflict
world .

Graeme

The War Diary http://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/fr/arkotheque/inventaires/ead_ir_consult.php?&ref=SHDGR__GR_26_N_II is extremely detailed, going into several pages to describe the action of 12-13 August. Tthe regiment suffered many casualties during early August. It lists the casualties by name, including your man:

Is his gravesite unknown?

He's buried in the Necropole Nationale at Maurepas, Somme (grave number 2098).
