P. J. Clarke Posted 15 December , 2014 Share Posted 15 December , 2014 Pte. Walter first joined the Scots Guards, but his Medal Index Card says that he joined the military Foot Police Corps, P/3912, Private; then Military Foot Police Corps, No. 1345, Private. He is reputed to have served in Russia. His brother, Thomas, served with the American forces and was wounded. The family would like to find out more information on Walter and Thomas as they do not know where they died after surviving the war. They were from a small village called Shanwar, Toomore, Foxford, Co. Mayo.
roughdiamond Posted 15 December , 2014 Share Posted 15 December , 2014 First things first, 8353 Scots Guards is Walter not William Noone, are you sure you have the right man? Secondly the service number 8353 was issued by the Scots Guards around mid 1912 according to Paul Nixons website http://armyservicenumbers.blogspot.co.uk/2009/01/scots-guards.html so it looks like Walter was a pre-War regular who later transferred to the MFP, this is backed up by his "Date of Entry" to theatre (2nd Bn landed in Zeebrugge on that date) and the fact his 1914 Star is on the Scots Guards Medal Roll while his War and Victory medals are on the MFP Medal Roll.
