Remembered Today:

Rifles?

The Doctor

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find out the regiment of this soldier, the father of a friend. The cap badge appears to be a Rifles Maltese Cross surmounted by a crown, with a scroll, and presumably a motto, under it. He is wearing a leather belt with an 's' buckle, and carrying a swagger stick. The soldier himself was from Nottinghamshire, East Markham to be precise.

Any help would be much appreciated.

At a guess, and from the evidence suggested, possibly Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby)?

Notts & Dots for sure, I'd say.

Once I had something to look for I found a photo of the SF badge, and I agree that's the one, so many thanks to all the responders for some very fast work. Unfortunately it doesn't look as though there are any service records for him, not even a medal card, but perhaps something will turn up.
