albert arnold Posted 6 December , 2014 Share Posted 6 December , 2014 Hi everyone, I've just re-activated a thread on the "Soldiers" forum about my grandfather William Arnold Young, who was originally from Newport-on-Tay. I've recently found a postcard containing a photo of him and a stamp on the back saying "2/1st Highland Cyclist Battalion A Coy". Later in the war, he trained as a tank officer and served in the 13th Battalion of the Tank Corps. But to start off with he was a despatch rider. Can anyone tell me if he could have been a despatch rider with this battalion (we have a picture of him on a motorbike)? What sort of work the battalions did? And whether any records of the battalions are held anywhere? Hope that someone might come up with something for me, Best wishes, Albert

albert arnold Posted 6 December , 2014 Author Share Posted 6 December , 2014 Hi sotonmate, Thanks for the link, which I'd already seen, and which threw some light on the battalions. I'm just wondering if there's any more info available anywhere, in particular about what they actually did, e.g. in and around Fife/Scotland. Best wishes, Albert
