Hello,

Can person/s more knowledgable than myself please explain some entries on a MIC I recently downloaded for T H Thorne L-8832

1. The rank of PW

2. A line drawn under Corp, Rank, Regtl No boxes

3. The L in front of the reg no.

4. Line drawn in the BWM boxes

5. The entry "Clasp & Roses iv. 4012 c/a d/11.6.20 cl 20946"

6. There is no entry for theatre of war first served in but

Date of Entry thereon 20.9.14 is entered

7. The entry to the right Dis 392XV1 with 20.1.16 under it

8. SWB List E/48

I purchased this fellows 1914 Star and understand that the Clasp was issued to men under fire between the dates on the clasp - is this correct.

I tried to download a picture of the MIC but have had no luck.

Thanks for any help that is possible

Ian

PW is probably Pte,{Private} written in Script.

Line has " in the centre signifing "Ditto" to above info on Card.

L Prefix* is Common to The Queen's;Middlesex,Sussex & Some Other Line Regiments{*as well as RFA,when it signifies Local Enlistment}

Line with " in centre in BWM box as Ditto to AVM info above it on the Card.

Clasp & Roses.Roll details of award of 1914 Clasp & Rose Emblems[2 per Recipient]

As it is 1914 Star the Theatre could only be France, hence date of entry.

discharge Details Kings Regulations /392xvi,Date of discharge[see long trail for KR details]

SWB Roll Page Number:this will give you Enlistment date, date of discharge,Cause{often given in words as opposed to KR/xxxxxx?}Age,Etc.

NB:Clasp was awarded post 1918 to those within Range of the Enemys Mobile Artillery, rather than just those who came under fire.

Thanks again HarryBettsMCDCM, I certainly appreciate the easy access to people with so much knowledge.

It makes it alot easier for beginners such as myself.

Cheers

Ian
