BIFFO Posted 4 December , 2014 Share Posted 4 December , 2014 Again I have been stitched up by my grandson(but I don't mind really)after a conversation with a rev at a local church my grand son mentioned I had researched some (dead soldiers)his words not mine, as the rev said every year on 11-11 he reads out names of mysterious men,and has no clue who they are or why they are on the memorial I said I thought that sad as they should be remembered . I have lots of men 1st being BAILEY CHARLES GEORGE 13th service Batt duke of Cambridge's own Middlesex reg service number T.F 204454 D.O.D 1st Aug 1917,I believe he was killed in or around Shrewsbury forest, I am no longer on ancestry for the life of me I cannot find where he is buried poss menin gate ?,poss one of the many near by cemeteries, I also cannot find a link to the village WM he is commemorated on Colingtree Northamptonshire. any help would be helpful Biff
Willywombat Posted 4 December , 2014 Share Posted 4 December , 2014 I'm not sure where you got the service number from. You seem to have an extra '4' on the end, according to the CWGC record. According to CWGC this chap is on the Menin Gate: Pte TF/20445 Charles G Bailey, 13th Middlesex. Son of Mr Bailey, 111 St Edmund's Rd, Northampton. Husband of Margaret Annie Bailey, 13 Acton St. Northampton. 01/08/17. Panels 49/51 http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/926053/BAILEY,%20CHARLES%20G He has a twelve-page service record on Ancestry. Interestingly, his service number on there does have the extra '4' on the end! He's was a cobbler (boot maker), by the look of it, although the writing makes it look as if he was in the "boob trade"! Stebie9173 Posted 4 December , 2014 Share Posted 4 December , 2014 He served in the 1/7th Middlesex and the the 13th per medal rolls - the "4" is correctly on the end of the number. A face for the name (Northampton Independent 1-9-1917): That will be boot trade - not exactly unusual in Northampton! Steve.
