In the Description on Enlistment in WO records, tattooes are always included. Arthur Charles Smith of the Suffolk Regiment is recorded as having on his chest the 'late King and Queen Alexandra'. He also had figures on both arms. Finally, 'on Buttocks a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year'!
