Greenwoodman Posted 20 November , 2014 Share Posted 20 November , 2014 Looking at 5KSLI 10 Feb 16. They used Skipton Lane (SE of Boesinghe) to access the front line, which I can find, but also occupied E25 to E28 (which I can't). From the War Diary narrative E28 seemed to be an important junction. Also FARGATE and HELLGATE mentioned, which again I can't find. I'm using the NM trench map DVD which I haven't used for ages with a 1917 map. Trying to send a location map to my cousin as he is going to visit a relative's commemoration on the Menin Gate, and would like to visit the area where he fought. Can anyone help please? CROONAERT Posted 21 November , 2014 Share Posted 21 November , 2014 E.25 to E.28 .... later (mid 1916) designated C.14.10 , C.14.11, C.14.12, C.13.1, C.13.2 and C.13.3... Dave
John Milner Posted 21 November , 2014 Share Posted 21 November , 2014 I think the name Hellgate should be Welgate which was adjacent to Yorkshire Trench. Fargate runs parallel to the canal from bridge 7Y, Welgate, to bridge 6D. I was there in September and Yorkshire Trench was closed due to a fall in, and the area east of the canal from Boesinge to opposite Essex Farm is an industrial estate. Skipton Lane was between bridges 6C and 6W. Welgate was near bridge 7Y. Regards John
