Stephen-Wynn Posted 17 November , 2014 Share Posted 17 November , 2014 I am researching Alfred Radcliffe Bowles for a book I am writing. Alfred was a Private (200790) in the 2nd/4th Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment who was attached to the 3rd Wireless Section Royal Engineers. He died on 16 October 1918 of pneumonia. Having checked the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website he is shown as having been commemorated on the Delhi Memorial India Gate, but he was also buried in Tank Cemetery which is situated at the village of Guemappe in the Pas de Calais region of France. Does anybody know what theatre of war the 3rd Wireless Section, Royal Engineers were engaged in during October 1918?
Phil Evans Posted 17 November , 2014 Share Posted 17 November , 2014 The Tank Cemetery in which he was buried was in the North West Province. He appears on the Delhi Memorial as it was one of the cemeteries that could not be maintained. The Historical Information here will explain it a bit more. Stephen-Wynn Posted 17 November , 2014 Author Share Posted 17 November , 2014 Phil, Many thanks. When I saw Tank Cemetery mentioned, I assumed they meant the one in France. Kind regards Steve
