Terry Carter Posted 4 May , 2003 Author Share Posted 4 May , 2003 Sorry egbert, it is not that either. However, I have placed another view showing a bit more trench. I have also rotated the picture which as you can see gives the crater more of a concave appearance. I think someone will get it now. I have also other clues, such as the Tunneling Coy responsible and the date it was blown. But that would make it too easy. Terry

Terry Carter Posted 4 May , 2003 Author Share Posted 4 May , 2003 Well Done Brian Yes it is the mine blown at the eastern corner of High Wood on 3 September, 1916, at the position of a German strong-point. The shaft was dug by the 178 Tunneling Coy, RE and the charge was 3,000 lbs of ammonal. A second charge was blown a few days later. andigger Posted 24 February , 2005 Share Posted 24 February , 2005 Terry, Do you know the altitude of the aircraft taking the picture? It seems exceedingly high for an aircraft of the time. Andy
Terry Carter Posted 27 February , 2005 Author Share Posted 27 February , 2005 Hello Andy The only markings on the picture are the date 7/9/16 and the trench map square identification. Terry
