My grandfather, Pte Jack Butler, was killed on 16 August 1917 at the Battle of Langemarck. He was officially in the Middlesex Regiment and has no known grave. This is not surprising as he was, according to his wife

( my grandmother) 'on the big guns at the time' and they took a direct hit.

I would like to identify, as far as possible, where he actually was when he died.

The strange thing is that the 1/7 btn of the Middlesex Regiment, whichIi understand he was in at the time, had been disbanded or amalgamated before 16 August 1917.

Any help in my search would be greatly appreciated.

Vaughan

If anyone would like me to do a look-up just let me know,

yours,

Peter.

Peter

Could I please ask you to look up the activities of the 1/7 west yorks (Leeds Rifles) during October !917. If this is too lengthy I Believe the Battalion were especially active around the 9th-11th. My Great Uncle was KIA on 17/11/17 so anything relating to them, on or around this date would be helpful.

Many thanks

Sue
