irishart Posted 1 November , 2014 Share Posted 1 November , 2014 I am tracing my uncle John Collins Inniskilling Fusiliers and found him in the Red Cross POW records in Merseburg camp. I can not find his service number and wondering how to find it. The regiment web site has a backlog of requests on line and are not able to receive any more requests. Any suggestions will be appreciated

irishart Posted 1 November , 2014 Author Share Posted 1 November , 2014 The ref number is P A 24885. It lists his rank details of capture and home address but not his service number
seaforths Posted 1 November , 2014 Share Posted 1 November , 2014 British Red Cross Enquiry Lists show a John Collins 10403 of 9th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Missing between 21-29 March 1918. This seems to be at odds with the ICRC reference showing 1st Bn. Not sure if the above is your uncle but it might be worth checking on Ancestry. Looking at that PA ref he was previously registered at Langensalza camp. However, it is possible that he might have been made to register at that camp without actually going there. irishart Posted 4 November , 2014 Author Share Posted 4 November , 2014 I have no information on him other than he was in the Inniskillings and had been a POW. On checking the site Belfast Clippings his picture and information on his address confirmed this was the John Collins I was searching for. Following up with the ICRC and finding him in their records but not finding his service number to go further with my research is where I am. I have no idea when he joined up. will having his address help in finding his number and files 129 Cupar Street Belfast thanks
