BillyH Posted 30 October , 2014 Share Posted 30 October , 2014 Frank died of wounds in a hospital at Wimereux - miles away from where he was wounded with the 11th Bn. Rifle Brigade. He may have received his wounds days or weeks previously. The Battalion war diary for this period has been digitised and can be downloaded here for £3.30 : http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C14054084 Also, read the historical Information notes here : http://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/8200/WIMEREUX%20COMMUNAL%20CEMETERY BillyH. Sandie Hayes Posted 30 October , 2014 Share Posted 30 October , 2014 His service record is on Ancestry. It mentions a Court of Enquiry held on 13.04.16 involving several men, of which one was Frank Fairfield. The record states 'DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED ACCIDENTALLY' and that he was buried in Avesnes-Le-Comte Cemetery. He was injured on the 13th, transferred to a casualty clearing station on the 14th and taken to Wimereux on the 16th. Gun Shot Wound to leg.
