I'm trying to find the name and address of a convalescent home for soldiers that was in Blackrock near Dublin during and after the war. Can anyone help please?

Thanks,

Chris.

Chris,

Have been googling for quite a while and have come up with these:

BLACKROCK CLINIC ROCK ROAD, BLACKROCK, CO. DUBLIN.

The Linden Convalescent Home, Blackrock, Co. Dublin.

Ashbury Private Nursing Home

1a Kill Lane, Blackrock, Co. Dublin

Contact:

Phone: (01)2841266

Fax: (01)2892722

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

The address on a postcard written in August 1916 to my father Pte Arthur Buck, 4th Suffolks was Temple Hill Auxiliary Hospital, Blackrock Co. Dublin. I believe that this was where he convalesced after being wounded at the Battle of the Somme.

I thought I might have been stretching my luck with that question, but once again forum members have come up with the goods!

The reason for asking the question is I found out over the weekend that one of my great grandfathers was in the RAMC in the war, and at the end of the war he worked at the home as a medic.

Thankyou to you both.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I'm pleased you found the right one. Was it the Temple Hill one then?

  • 9 years later...

There would have been at least three:

Linden Convalescent Home

Blackrock Military Orthopaedic Hospital

Temple Hill Auxiliary Hospital
