Balloon unit confusion

Hello,

I am researching an officer who joined the London Balloon Company, RE Territorial Force on November 6th 1911. The Air Battalion became effective April 1 1911 with two companies No1 being balloons etc and No2 being aeroplanes. Major V A Barrington-Kennett appears to have also served in the Air Battalion before it and he were absorbed into the newly formed RFC. Were the Balloon Company and the Air Battalion operating at the same time or have I got the chronology wrong. Grateful if anyone could tell me the relationship between the LBC and the Air Battalion, together with dates of any changes.
