Michael Lowrey Posted 30 October , 2004 Share Posted 30 October , 2004 Gill, Trawlers taken into naval service were used for patrol work/submarine hunting, escorting convoys, and minesweeping. Minesweeping was easily the most dangerous of these duties; U-boats did not intentionally target trawlers escorting convoys though occassionally a trawler would cross between the submarine and its intended target and take a torpedo hit. Not all trawlers though were taken into naval service; some remained as fishing vessels. Best wishes, Michael
Malcolm Posted 30 October , 2004 Share Posted 30 October , 2004 You should try and get some book/books on the Auxilliary Patrol of the Royal Navy. In the later part of the War the fishing fleet was taken over by the Admiralty and they fished under escort. Any particular boat??
