jscott Posted 14 October , 2014 Share Posted 14 October , 2014 Here are two P88 bayonets which I recently acquired and which are marked to units which took place in the fighting at Gallipoli (Helles) in 1915 - the 5th Kings Own Scottish Borderers and the 8th Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). These bayonets represent what I truly enjoy about collecting WW1 militaria - a direct and tangible connection to the men who fought. On a recent trip to Gallipoli I spent a day walking the battlefields that these units fought over during the battle of Gully Ravine. A wonderfully atmospheric area. trajan Posted 14 October , 2014 Share Posted 14 October , 2014 Yet another nice group! And, yes, I am envious.... Nothing as good as those turns up over here - or if it does, very rarely...
jscott Posted 16 October , 2014 Author Share Posted 16 October , 2014 Thanks Trajan. I had a bit of a clean out of my bayonets recently as I wanted to focus on those with regimental markings - and these are two of my favourites (along with my early-Australian P1907s). They don't pop up very often here either, but when they do they seem to appear in small bunches! Cheers, Jonathan
